The Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join Prof. Mariano Campoy Quiles’s team on the FOTOPINVER project (2026–2028). This project focuses on integrating organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices into low-density polyethylene (LDPE) greenhouse films to create energy-generating agricultural plastics. The successful candidate will help develop and test OPV prototypes on flexible plastic substrates and evaluate their performance in greenhouse conditions. This position offers a stimulating interdisciplinary environment at the forefront of renewable energy and sustainable agriculture.

Roles and Responsibilities

As the postdoctoral researcher for OPV integration, you will be responsible for developing and evaluating methods to embed OPV devices into flexible plastic substrates for agricultural use. Key duties include:

  • Conduct research on integrating OPV solar cells into flexible substrates.
  • Optimize solution-based thin-film deposition processes (e.g., blade coating, slot-die) for printing OPV layers on plastics.
  • Fabricate and characterize OPV devices; test device performance and stability.
  • Collaborate with plant biologists and materials scientists to assess the impact of OPV filters on plant growth.
  • Analyze data, prepare project reports, and contribute to scientific publications.

The ideal candidate

  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (specialization in organic photovoltaics or thin-film electronics preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with thin-film device fabrication and characterization; familiarity with polymer substrates or printed electronics is a plus.
  • The applicant should demonstrate an excellent command of the English language (spoken and written).
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills; ability to work in a multidisciplinary research environment.
  • A proactive attitude and passion for renewable energy technologies.

ICMAB-CSIC fosters postdoctoral fellows’ careers to become future leaders in functional materials for electronics, energy and health. R&D activities are strongly supported by state-of-the-art scientific instrumentation and specialised technical staff available in its scientific services. Training in technical, scientific and transversal skills is offered to all ICMAB-CSIC personnel. SOLARIS VITA complements this environment by offering a technology-driven setting focused on the development and transfer of organic photovoltaic materials to the market. Together, both institutions provide a unique framework to advance scientific knowledge and industrial innovation. We encourage motivated candidates to join us in advancing this emerging field.
